The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) says it will provide newly registered birth, death and marriage certificates within three working days after applications are processed through its Registration of Birth & Death (RBD) portal. The change follows an approach that uses ward-level Civil Facilitation Centres (CFCs) for receiving requests.
The Hindu and Free Press Journal both report that the BMC has begun accepting applications for birth and death registration and for corrections at CFCs located in ward offices. Free Press Journal adds further details, including that parents can add a child’s name to a birth certificate within 15 years of birth, with a revised certificate issued in three working days. It also states that marriage-certificate corrections will be processed within three days, while birth and death-certificate corrections can take up to 25 working days, depending on the record.
Free Press Journal also describes additional features such as converting older certificates into QR-code-enabled versions and using a unique tracking ID from the acknowledgement receipt. It notes that the BMC says processing may take longer if older records cannot be found or traced, and it mentions public awareness efforts and guidance boards at CFCs.
