Insomniac Games says Marvel’s Wolverine will be “fully playable” from the PlayStation 5 disc when the game releases on 15 September, meaning players will not need to download the full game in order to start playing.
Both outlets report Insomniac is responding to questions about whether the retail version would function like “disc-in-a-box” software. Instead, the clarification indicates the disc contains the complete playable experience at launch, with no requirement to first download the game itself.
The reports also place the announcement in a broader industry context. TechRadar links the clarification to Sony’s plan to end physical game production, suggesting the game could become among the final PS5 titles sold with a fully disc-based experience. Eurogamer similarly notes the possibility it may be one of the last PlayStation games to rely on physical media for full playability, though the confirmation itself focuses on the out-of-box disc content.
