MTN Group reports a jump in adjusted first-half earnings, citing improved performance across several core markets. The company says adjusted headline earnings per share for the six months ended 30 June range between R7.75 and R8.08, compared with R6.57 in the prior year.

The results are attributed to stronger contributions from MTN’s operations in Nigeria, Ghana and Uganda. Bloomberg and Ghana MMA both focus on the improved underlying trading in these countries and describe the earnings increase as up to 23%.

Moneyweb adds an additional perspective, noting that headline earnings may be flat when impairment losses are included. It specifically points to impairment charges linked to an Iran-related investment as a factor that offsets the improved operating performance. The outlets therefore differ mainly in whether they emphasize adjusted earnings growth or headline effects after impairment.
