NNPP announces plan to field candidates for over 90% of elective positions in 2027

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has announced that it successfully fielded candidates for over 90 per cent of elective positions nationwide ahead of the 2027 general elections, despite delays caused by litigation.Founder of the party, Boniface Aniebonam, disclosed this on Tuesday while addressing journalists after an emergency National Working Committee (NWC) meeting held at Rockview Hotel, Apapa, Lagos.Aniebonam explained that the NNPP’s broad participation does not rule out strategic alliances with other parties that share similar interests and ideologies. “We can work with parties where we feel they have stronger hold and vice versa,” he said.On zoning, the NNPP founder clarified that the party does not support the idea, stressing that competence and integrity should guide leadership choices. “If we will ever consider zoning, it is to be when we would have won a presidential election. For now, the best person who can deliver should be allowed,” he stated.He added that the party would hold a non-elective convention before the end of August to allow members to deliberate on key issues collectively. Aniebonam also urged members who left during the leadership crisis to return ahead of the replacement of placeholders.The NNPP’s announcement comes as opposition parties intensify preparations for the 2027 elections, with alliances and candidate positioning expected to play a major role in the contest.
