Maharashtra plans to redevelop 147 properties of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), including bus stands, in the first phase under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde says. The initiative aims to improve passenger-facing infrastructure while generating sustainable revenue for the state-run corporation.
Shinde describes the project as part of a broader upgrade of MSRTC facilities, noting that many bus station buildings are over 40 years old. The plan includes modern bus ports and passenger amenities, along with additional commercial and civic uses such as offices, healthcare and other public-serving facilities. Solar systems and EV charging infrastructure are also planned, including dedicated charging for electric state transport buses.
The government says MSRTC retains land ownership and land is not permanently transferred. Reporting also describes how developers bear construction costs, with MSRTC receiving an upfront premium and regular annual rent. Sources also mention features intended to manage procurement and project delivery, including e-tendering, escrow-based fund control, a security deposit, and a defect liability period. Conceptual designs for sites in Borivali and Dahivadi have been presented as part of the early rollout.
