Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi calls on Nigerians to take a decisive stand on the country’s direction as the 2027 general elections approach. He makes the remarks during the 2026 Goodluck Jonathan Foundation Democracy Dialogue in Bauchi.
Obi urges citizens to reflect on where Nigeria is heading and to push for leadership that strengthens democracy. He says decisions made now will shape the future for children and argues that the elections should produce outcomes acceptable to major stakeholders.
He also raises concerns about political interference in the judiciary, citing his own experience in a legal dispute related to the Anambra governorship. Obi warns that some judicial decisions appear influenced by politics, rather than merit, and uses the example of judges allegedly aligning their rulings with the wishes of the presidency. Both outlets frame his comments as a call to reject bad governance, injustice, and manipulation, while he credits former President Goodluck Jonathan for providing a continuing platform for democracy dialogue.
