Ondo State issues a warning to traditional rulers, telling them not to convert palaces into detention centres or act as courts. The state says such activities should not be carried out outside legal and constitutional processes.
According to officials, the warning also targets related practices, including self-help measures in palaces and land grabbing. The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr Kayode Ajulo, SAN, directs monarchs to operate within established constitutional limits and to cooperate with formal security and judicial institutions. The message emphasizes that traditional authorities can play roles that support governance, but should not perform functions reserved for courts or security agencies.
