Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has declared Friday, August 14, 2026, a work-free day for public service workers across the state in preparation for Saturday’s governorship election.The announcement was contained in a circular issued by the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, and shared by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Wednesday.According to the circular, the decision is aimed at giving workers sufficient time to travel and prepare to exercise their constitutional right to vote. The directive covers all categories of workers except those engaged in emergency and essential services.In a pre-election message, Adeleke urged workers, their families, and friends to turn out in large numbers to vote and defend their ballots. He praised organised labour and the workforce for their support, describing his administration’s relationship with workers as “mutually beneficial.”“The time for action has come. As formal workers, I urge you to mobilise informal workers, artisans, and professional bodies. We must remain strong in defence of our constitutional rights to vote and be voted for,” Adeleke said.The governor further appealed to residents to safeguard what he described as the gains of his administration over the past three and a half years. “Ours is a workers-friendly government which has delivered across board. We cannot and must not allow a return to dark days,” he added.
