Oman says an oil spill from a tanker grounded off its coast has reached the country’s coastline. Oman's Environment Authority reports that oil is washing ashore on mainland beaches to the north of a nearby island after leaking from the vessel.
Officials say the spill also threatens marine habitats and a protected area near the grounding site. Outlets note that strong winds and monsoon currents are helping spread the oil, raising concern it could move further and affect other islands as well as additional stretches of shore.
