GM and LG Energy Solution’s Ultium Cells joint venture is restarting EV battery cell production at its Warren, Ohio plant next week after a seven-month shutdown. The restart follows the idling of the facility earlier this year, and the plant is expected to bring back roughly 1,400 workers.
The development comes as the broader US EV market shows signs of recovery but remains uneven. One report says US EV sales rise 14.2% in the second quarter, though they are still 20.5% below the level of a year earlier. Outlets frame the restart as a move to resume operations and align production with demand, without changing the underlying partnership or the basic purpose of the Ohio facility.
