Disney+ reaches a multimillion-pound content deal with Gary Neville’s The Overlap, securing rights to broadcast podcasts for its streaming platform. The move adds to a growing football media battle as streaming services expand their offerings around well-known football personalities.
Under the agreement, Disney+ will air 40 episodes from Neville’s existing Stick to Football this season, featuring Neville and other regular presenters including Jamie Carragher, Jill Scott, Ian Wright and Roy Keane. The deal also includes 50 episodes of a new programme, Stick to United with Wayne Rooney, co-presented by content creator Mark Goldbridge. Deadline and The Guardian both frame the announcement as part of an effort to counter Netflix’s recent entry into football podcasts.
The Guardian highlights the competitive angle, citing Netflix’s Netflix-backed Rest is Football initiative connected to Gary Lineker. Deadline similarly describes the arrangement as “strike back” after Netflix backed football podcast editions over the summer, though both sources focus on the specific episode commitments and the programme lineup tied to The Overlap.
