Bauchi State House of Assembly Majority Leader Saleh Hodi resigns from the Assembly to contest the chairmanship election for Shira Local Government area. Hodi, who represents Disina Constituency and was first elected in 2019, formally notifies the House of his resignation through a letter read by the Speaker during Wednesday’s plenary.
The Speaker, Abubakar Sulaiman, says the move follows Hodi’s nomination by the Allied People’s Movement as its candidate for the Shira LG chairmanship race. Hodi, in his farewell remarks, thanks colleagues, constituents, and stakeholders for their support and says he will seek to exceed expectations if elected. Following his resignation, the APM nominates Auwal Yana as the new Majority Leader.
The outlets also note the wider election timeline: the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission schedules local government elections for August 17, 2026. Chairmanship elections will take place in 19 of the state’s 20 local government areas, while councillorship elections will be held across all 20.
