Suspected members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) ambush Nigerian forces in Borno State, killing at least four soldiers and injuring several others, according to an account shared by African jihadism expert Brant Philip on X. Philip says the attack occurs on August 6 between Yamtake and Bitta.
Both outlets report that the attackers use small arms and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). They also describe damage to military assets, including the destruction of three vehicles, and the seizure of weapons and ammunition. One outlet adds that ISWAP releases graphic images showing casualties.
While authorities have not publicly confirmed the specific ambush described, both sources note separate Nigerian military reporting related to ISWAP activity in the region. In a different incident, Nigeria’s military says troops under Operation Hadin Kai repel an ISWAP assault on a base in Gajiram, Nganzai Local Government Area, with some terrorists “neutralized” and soldiers injured. The outlets differ mainly in emphasis and details, but they align on the reported casualties and the reported Aug. 6 location and tactics.
