Zee Entertainment shares rise after the Securities Appellate Tribunal (SAT) grants interim relief in Zee’s dispute with SEBI, putting a hold on parts of SEBI’s order. Multiple outlets report the move allows the company to continue with its proposed fund-raising plan, contributing to the stock’s sharp gains on the day.
SAT’s relief lets Zee proceed with a preferential issue of fully convertible warrants and permits promoters to issue preferential warrants, subject to conditions. Sources also say the company is allowed to use mutual fund units for operational needs, with limits on other uses such as dividend distribution. The relief is described as conditional on depositing the penalties imposed by SEBI within a set timeframe, and SAT also extends the deadline for issuing the warrants.
While the relief is specific, market-access restrictions tied to the underlying SEBI action remain in force, according to reporting. SEBI’s original July 31 order bars Zee from accessing the securities market for two months and bars promoter Punit Goenka and Subhash Chandra for longer periods. The regulator’s action relates to alleged unauthorised use and pledge of Zee property in Hyderabad’s Jubilee Hills as loan security, plus issues including missing approvals and disclosure concerns. Zee disputes aspects of the allegations, including documentation related to property titles.
