Polygon and Nintendo Life both report that Disney frames the franchise as part of its wider portfolio of nine “billion-dollar” properties. Polygon adds that the timing of the disclosure coincides with expectations around upcoming Kingdom Hearts news, including the possibility of information being shared at D23 Fan Expo this weekend.
Both outlets connect the disclosure to the ongoing expansion of the Kingdom Hearts universe and the work Square Enix is conducting on the fourth game.
