An attack in Nanded on Sukhbir Singh Badal at Mata Sahib Gurdwara is reported to have been stopped from causing deeper injuries when Maharashtra Police inspector Santosh Vaijnath Kendre intervenes, preventing the assailant from carrying out a stabbing. Badal, Shiromani Akali Dal’s chief, is said to have been injured on his hand, while Kendre sustained an injury during the incident.
According to accounts reported by outlets, Badal was leaving the gurdwara after interacting with devotees as part of a religious visit when an attacker approached with a kirpan concealed under his shawl. Kendre, part of Badal’s Maharashtra security detail, reportedly noticed the movement and moved to stop the attack. Both outlets say Kendre’s actions are described by Badal’s family as standing “like a human shield,” and they also report that Kendre told Harsimrat Kaur Badal it was part of his training.
