Great Joshua MacIver formally declares he wants to contest for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship ticket in Bayelsa State’s November 2027 off-cycle election. He communicates his intention in a letter to the PDP’s Bayelsa State Working Committee, seeking to position himself for the party’s candidate selection.
MacIver says his focus is on leadership effectiveness and welfare for Bayelsa people, arguing that competence and experience should guide the party’s choice rather than zoning. He also pledges to support the PDP financially, including a commitment to donate N70 million monthly starting in August 2026. The reports add that he previously served as chairman of Southern Ijaw Local Government under the PDP and had been the deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa’s 2023 election.

They also link his move to a recent political realignment, describing his defection to the PDP earlier this year and his claims of alleged marginalization by Governor Douye Diri after Diri’s shift from the PDP to the APC.
