Police deploy helicopters, drones and MOPOL for Osun governorship election security

The Nigeria Police Force has announced sweeping security measures ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State, including the deployment of helicopters, drones, Mobile Police units, and other operatives across the state.Force Public Relations Officer, Okokon Iniedu, disclosed the arrangements on Friday at the Osun State Police Command headquarters in Osogbo, stressing that the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, had directed officers to guarantee a safe, peaceful, and credible poll.Iniedu warned that vote-buying would not be tolerated, noting that offenders would be arrested and prosecuted immediately. He assured voters, INEC officials, and election personnel of the neutrality of security agencies.Giving details, he said aerial surveillance had already commenced, with helicopters and drone units patrolling the state. One unit of Mobile Police Force has been deployed to each local government, while additional armed personnel are stationed at INEC offices and strategic locations.He added that four unarmed officers would be posted to each of Osun’s 3,700 polling units, alongside covert operatives tasked with intelligence gathering. Movement restrictions will take effect from midnight Friday to secure the election environment.The police also confirmed that while no fresh killings had been reported, earlier cases of cult clashes and politically motivated violence were under investigation, with some already charged to court.Commissioner of Police Cletus Nwadiogbu assured residents that the command was “on top of the game” and urged communities to remain vigilant and provide credible information to aid security operations.
