India’s gems and jewellery exports decline by 9.07% in April to USD 2,226.45 million (₹20,825.01 crore), according to data shared by the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC). The exports are lower than USD 2,448.53 million (₹20,952.26 crore) recorded in the same month last year, based on GJEPC figures.

The GJEPC attributes the contraction largely to disruptions tied to the conflict in West Asia, which affects global trade flows. The council also points to additional uncertainty linked to tariffs impacting the United States, a major destination for Indian gems and jewellery.

Within the broader category, the reports highlight weakness in key segments. Cut and polished diamond exports fall by 19.65% in April to USD 890.91 million from USD 1,108.74 million a year earlier. Exports of polished lab-grown diamonds also decrease by 15.53% to USD 93.28 million. Separately, gold jewellery exports drop by 21.77% to USD 841.54 million in April versus USD 1,075.67 million in the prior year period.
