Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has led a delegation of state executives and Ibom Air management to the Airbus production facility in Mirabel, Canada, for a pre-delivery inspection of the airline’s third Airbus A220-300 aircraft.In a statement issued in Uyo on Saturday, Ibom Air’s Group Manager for Marketing and Communication, Aniekan Essienette, described the inspection as a major milestone in the airline’s fleet modernisation and growth strategy. The process, conducted before the aircraft enters commercial service, underscores Ibom Air’s commitment to expanding capacity, strengthening connectivity, and maintaining one of Africa’s most modern fleets.The delegation was received by Guillaume Chevasson, Head of the A220 Programme and CEO of Airbus Canada. Ibom Air’s CEO, George Uriesi, highlighted the significance of the event, noting that the A220 remains central to the airline’s network strategy. “This pre-delivery inspection represents an important milestone in our fleet expansion programme and brings us one step closer to welcoming this aircraft to Nigeria,” he said.Governor Eno emphasised that the investment aligns with the state’s ARISE Agenda and vision of positioning Akwa Ibom as a leading aviation hub. “We look forward to formally receiving this aircraft in Akwa Ibom State and to the economic opportunities that enhanced connectivity will create for trade, tourism, investment, and regional development,” he stated.Airbus CEO Chevasson praised Ibom Air’s trust in the A220 family, citing its fuel efficiency, passenger comfort, and operational flexibility.
