The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) warns companies, organisations and individuals against using the Malawi Scorchers’ name, images or brand for commercial purposes without permission. The notice highlights that any such use for commercial gain can be challenged or shut down.

The warning is issued as the Scorchers prepare to play Cameroon in the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final. Multiple outlets frame the message as part of an effort to protect the team’s newly established visibility following Malawi’s historic run to the final, described as the country’s first WAFCON final appearance.

While both reports emphasise the need for consent before any commercial use, they differ slightly in wording and framing: one outlet focuses on FAM’s directive to avoid “commercial use” without permission, while the other foregrounds the requirement for explicit consent and the likelihood of enforcement against unauthorised parties. Both accounts present the same core point that the FAM controls or manages rights related to the team’s branding and expects others to request approval before monetising it.
