Scotland’s football authorities are preparing to appoint Belgian coach Sébastien Pocognoli as Steve Clarke’s successor as international manager, with an announcement expected early next week. Both outlets report the 39-year-old is currently available after being sacked by Monaco in June.
Clarke left the role abruptly after Scotland exit the World Cup at the group stage. He had agreed a four-year contract extension shortly before the tournament, and the Scottish Football Association then moves quickly to identify a replacement. The Scottish FA’s approach is described as favouring a foreign appointment, with Pocognoli set to become the first non-Scottish manager since Berti Vogts (in charge from 2002 to 2004). Other candidates mentioned in reporting include Danish coach Jon Dahl Tomasson and Kasper Hjulmand, before the selection of Pocognoli.
Scotland are scheduled to play Slovenia on 26 September in the Nations League, which frames the timing of the new appointment.
