The slate is anchored by the world premiere of a teaser trailer for “Shumei – The Living Legacy of Kabuki,” directed by Japanese filmmaker Miike Takashi. The documentary is described as Takashi’s first documentary feature.
Deadline adds that, beyond the $33 million equity-style fund, K2 Pictures also reports raising $67 million in debt financing as part of its wider financing efforts. Together, the announcements position K2 Pictures as expanding its production and funding activities while showcasing an early focus on Miike Takashi’s Kabuki-related documentary. The reports also indicate that K2 Pictures frames the Cannes presentation as a launch moment for its slate and fund strategy, with additional slate additions beyond the Miike project.
