The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) sentences a truck driver to one month in jail after inspectors discover 15 passengers concealed under his truck’s cargo cover. FRSC marshals find the passengers hidden alongside sacks and motorcycles during an enforcement operation, and the driver is arrested.
Officials say the case involves a Mitsubishi truck with the cover pulled back to reveal the hidden occupants. FRSC spokesperson Osondu Ohaeri reports that the driver, identified as Umar Muhammadu, attempts to bribe an officer with ₦500 and does not produce a valid driver’s licence, leading to his detention. After the arrest, the truck, its occupants, and eight motorcycles are handed over to police for further investigation.
Across the outlets, the focus remains on unsafe transport practices and FRSC enforcement. Both accounts also highlight that FRSC continues intelligence-led operations, including mobile court actions, to deter concealment of passengers, overloading, and driving without valid documents. One outlet also notes a separate Abia State case involving another driver sentenced after absconding during an arrest.
