BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla announces his resignation from the party and steps down as BJP national spokesperson and active primary member, saying he is doing so due to pressing personal and financial circumstances. He reiterates that he is leaving party “posts” but remains supportive of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision and the BJP’s work.

Multiple outlets report that Poonawalla had submitted his initial resignation on July 30, but BJP leadership did not accept it and asked him to reconsider. When he announces his final decision, he says developments involving “certain individuals” in recent days further reinforce his choice, though he does not identify those individuals or provide details. In his resignation letter, he thanks BJP president Nitin Nabin and other senior leaders, including Modi and Amit Shah, as well as Rajnath Singh and B.L. Santosh.

Outlet accounts also note his plan to move to the private sector. One report says he had updated his profile on X in the days before the resignation by removing the “BJP national spokesperson” designation, while continuing to describe himself as a lifelong follower of Modi.
