Virgin Trains is moving toward launching a high-speed rail service that would compete with Eurostar on key routes in the late 2030s. Multiple outlets report that the operator is progressing plans for services connecting London with major cities in continental Europe.

According to reporting, Virgin Trains would run up to 20 daily return services on routes including London–Paris as well as London–Brussels and London–Amsterdam. One outlet says the planned start date is 1 October 2030, with operations expected to continue through to the end of 2040.

The coverage also highlights the potential effect on passengers. One outlet notes that travellers are looking for increased competition to pressure ticket prices, which it says can be higher for rail journeys than comparable Paris-to-London airline fares. While the sources focus on the schedule and frequency, they frame the motivation through the prospect of fares changing for customers rather than detailing specific pricing commitments or regulatory approvals.
