JD(S) state general secretary Gottigere Manju is arrested in Bengaluru in connection with an alleged assault on a traffic police constable while the constable is on duty. The accused is reported to have grabbed the constable by the collar and attempted to assault him during an altercation after the vehicle is stopped during traffic regulation.
Reports say the incident occurs on Sunday evening at around 4 pm near Gottigere, close to Bannerughatta. According to the complaint to Hulimavu police, the constable uses a hand signal to stop Manju’s car to allow opposing traffic to pass, and an argument follows. Videos of the incident circulate, and outlets report that Manju calls a senior police officer during the confrontation and complains about the constable stopping his vehicle.
One point across coverage is that a senior officer directs the constable to apologise to Manju after the complaint, which reportedly leads to anger among junior police personnel. The matter then reaches higher police leadership, and Hulimavu police register a case and later arrest Manju on Monday for assault or use of criminal force to deter the public servant from discharging duty.
