Tata Group company Nelco Limited announces a partnership with Elveo Mobile, alongside an investment in Elveo’s US-based parent entity, Lunar Holdco Inc., to support direct-to-device satellite connectivity. The deal focuses on providing connectivity and compute solutions using Elveo’s satellites, aiming to reach enterprise users beyond areas covered reliably by traditional mobile networks.
Across outlets, the described service targets sectors including automotive, maritime/shipping, energy, telecommunications, infrastructure and government services. The technology is intended to connect compatible smartphones, machines and IoT devices in locations where ground mobile networks are weak or unavailable, including during network failures or natural disasters. Nelco also plans to work with businesses to integrate satellite connectivity into their existing platforms.
Reported investment figures differ by outlet detail. Business Line cites an investment of about $20 million, while NDTV reports Rs 191.2 crore in Lunar Holdco, and Free Press Journal notes Nelco announced an investment but did not disclose the amount. All sources note that further rollout depends on regulatory approvals, spectrum availability, licensing rules and satellite deployment.
