Fortinet announces it has acquired Virtue AI, aiming to expand its security offerings for artificial intelligence. The company says Virtue AI enhances the Fortinet AI-Native Security Fabric by providing continuous, agentic AI validation and runtime protection across an AI application’s lifecycle.
The acquisition is presented as part of Fortinet’s broader effort to secure what it calls the “agentic enterprise,” where deploying AI applications and autonomous agents increases the attack surface. Help Net Security describes this expanded surface as including not only traditional networks, endpoints, and cloud workloads, but also prompts, models, agents, Model Context Protocol (MCP) tools, API calls, and AI infrastructure. The outlets frame the change as a move to add protections tailored to AI-specific components and workflows, rather than focusing only on conventional security layers.
