The Zamfara State chapter of Nigeria’s Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) raises an alarm over reports that suspected bandits may have planted an improvised explosive device (IED) along the Gurusu–Gwashi Road in Bukkuyum Local Government Area. In a statement, the party says the suspected use of IEDs on public roads represents a dangerous escalation that could endanger residents, motorists, farmers, traders, commuters and security personnel.

The NDC calls for urgent action by the Federal Government and security agencies to secure the corridor and other vulnerable communities. It urges a review of security operations in Bukkuyum and surrounding areas, including increased patrols, improved intelligence gathering, stronger explosive-ordnance capabilities and a heightened security presence on major highways and rural routes. The party also requests deeper cooperation between the Zamfara State Government and federal security services and says community-based intelligence should be strengthened, noting that local residents and traditional leaders often spot suspicious activity.

Across the reporting, both outlets attribute the warning to the NDC’s Zamfara chapter and cite the same road and location. Their accounts largely match in substance, framing the issue as a need for immediate, intelligence-led security response.
