A new Gallup poll finds that a smaller share of American adults report gambling than in past years. Forty-five percent of respondents say they have taken part in one or more forms of gambling over the past year, compared with 64 percent a decade ago.
The Washington Post reports the same overall figure, also noting the drop from 64 percent in 2016. The Hill adds additional historical context, citing declines from earlier benchmarks, including 63 percent in 2007. Both outlets attribute the change to the results of Gallup’s survey, which measures participation in at least one type of gambling within the prior 12 months.
While the outlets align on the central results, they vary slightly in how they present the timeline. The Hill emphasizes a broader comparison across multiple years, whereas The Washington Post focuses on the contrast between recent and past levels of participation.
