The Smile Saver Foundation holds its annual Back-to-School Treat and Education Assistance Programme in Dalvey, St Thomas, on Saturday, providing help to students and families ahead of the new school year. Residents from Dalvey and neighbouring communities attend the event at Dalvey Primary and Infant School.

The initiative is in its second year and is designed to equip and encourage more than 200 students with back-to-school supplies and resources. The Jamaica Observer reports that last year the foundation assisted 120 students, while this year it distributes 200 packages to children both from within Dalvey and from outside the community. Organisers also frame the event as a day of relief and enjoyment for students, parents, caregivers, and school staff.

Both outlets describe the foundation’s broader work alongside its education assistance. The programme is linked to the foundation’s emphasis on oral-hygiene education, with oral-health tools and related outreach. The Observer adds that beneficiaries also receive food and access to medical services, which organisers say can ease financial pressures for families. The foundation’s CEO and founder, Chantal Richards, says the choice of Dalvey reflects her personal ties to the community and that the annual event is intended to continue.
