Smashing Pumpkins announce a 30th anniversary tour for Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, branded “The Rats in a Cage Tour.” The band’s double album originally released in 1995 (often referenced in coverage as their mid-1990s breakthrough) is the centerpiece of the celebration. Multiple outlets report that each show is structured as two distinct sets. One set features a full performance of Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness presented in a highly theatrical setting. A second set draws from the band’s broader catalog, mixing hits with deep cuts across their long career. The tour is set to run in 2026, with outlets noting it follows earlier major arena tours that leaned toward material from the group’s output prior to later projects. While outlets vary in phrasing and framing, they align on the core details: the anniversary theme, the “Rats in a Cage” name, the expectation of a full album performance night-by-night, and an additional set of other Smashing Pumpkins material. Coverage does not list specific dates or venues in the provided excerpts.

3 months agoSmashing Pumpkins released their blockbuster double album Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness in 1995, so if we're being sticklers here, last year would have been the year to head out on a 30th anniversary tour. But I'm not going to complain about the Pumpkins doing it in 2026. They put on an amazing show when they toured arenas in 2018 focusing on their output from 2000 and earlier (before the CIA got involved and/or Zwan happened). I expect this outing to be similarly entertaining. The post Smashing Pumpkins Announce Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness 30th Anniversary Tour appeared first on Stereogum.
