L&T Finance plans to expand its gold-loan business across India and in West Bengal specifically. The company is targeting about 500 new gold-loan branches during the current financial year, aiming to grow its overall network from roughly 330 branches to around 830-840 branches. In West Bengal, it says it currently operates 28 locations and expects to add 26 more by March 2027, including four additional branches in Kolkata.
The expansion follows L&T Finance’s entry into the gold-loan market through the acquisition and integration of Paul Merchants Finance’s gold-loan business in June 2025. The company’s gold-loan book is reported at ₹3,829 crore in the first quarter of FY27, with West Bengal outstanding around ₹165 crore. Coverage also notes regulatory changes: L&T Finance comments on a Reserve Bank of India master direction on gold loans, including revised loan-to-value calculations that factor interest payable over the loan tenor.
Outlets also differ in focus: one report highlights West Bengal market size and campaign activity, while another emphasizes the broader national branch target and industry growth projections from analysts and credit rating agencies.
