Hong Kong customs officers arrest two staff members linked to Opatra London, a beauty and skincare chain, as part of an investigation into alleged high-pressure or coercive sales tactics. The arrests take place on Wednesday, following earlier customs action at a corporate secretarial office in Sheung Wan.
The South China Morning Post reports that the detainees include a man in charge of financial administration and a woman serving as an administrative manager. Hong Kong Free Press says the Customs and Excise Department identifies them as a 42-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, who are connected to Opatra London’s Hong Kong operations. The raids focus on complaints alleging aggressive sales practices, including claims involving sums of up to HK$100,000.
Across outlets, the investigation centers on allegations that Opatra London staff use pressure tactics targeting middle-aged and elderly customers. The South China Morning Post adds that officers seized documents from a unit in the Wing On Centre on Connaught Road Central. Officials say the action follows multiple complaints, with the South China Morning Post citing six complaints in total, while Free Press describes the matter as stemming from alleged coercive conduct.
