Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram kill eight people, including a police inspector, in Gaya-Dlang near Fa’agaya, Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State. The attack happens on the evening of Monday, August 17, and includes the burning of houses and the looting of food supplies. Authorities and local sources say the gunmen also abduct four girls during the raid.
Reports say the area has seen repeated violence in recent months, including a prior attack on the Zah community in the Yadul District that resulted in deaths and an abduction. The Hong LGA chairman, Dr. Aliyu Yerima Hong, confirms the deaths and says several others are injured. He also describes widespread fear in the area, saying many peasant farmers have abandoned their fields, and pledges continued support for military and security efforts, along with local hunters and vigilantes.
