A 10-year-old boy dies in Pune after a two-wheeler he was riding with his father and sister skids on a pothole and comes under a tempo in Mhalunge on Monday evening. The boy, identified as Rishabh Sandeep Patole, was travelling on the Nande-Mhalunge road to tuition when the accident occurred. Residents react with anger, saying road conditions in the area are unsafe and have not been adequately addressed.
The incident also triggers a political backlash after Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Shankar Mandekar makes remarks during public interactions. According to accounts, he responds to residents’ questions about road maintenance by saying that if there are roads, accidents are bound to happen. The remark draws criticism, with residents reportedly also asking why road quality remained poor despite complaints. Some coverage notes that Mandekar later cites delays in land acquisition and issues linked to Town Planning (TP) schemes and land records as factors slowing road projects in areas including Sus, Nande, Maan, and Mhalunge. Opposition voices use the death and the comments to question government progress, accountability, and the lack of visible improvements.
