Osun State’s APC and ruling Accord Party exchange allegations following the governorship election that sees Ademola Adeleke declared winner. Both parties trade blame over claims that their members and supporters were attacked after the result was announced, escalating tensions in the state.
The APC accuses Accord supporters of launching assaults on APC members and supporters after Adeleke’s victory. The party also alleges that violence included forceful occupation of council secretariats by local government officials aligned with Accord and that thugs were used around motor parks. Accord rejects these claims, saying they are propaganda and accusing APC supporters instead of attacking Accord members.
Accord also provides its own figures, stating that 20 of its members are killed and that 30 are receiving treatment, while describing the APC narrative as a fabrication. APC, for its part, warns of a “wave of post-election violence” and calls on security authorities to respond. Across the reports, the dispute centers on who is responsible for post-poll attacks and whether the violence affected party members and political institutions in Osun.
