The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC), based in Barbados, launches the Caribbean Targeted Education Certificate (CTEC), a new regional certification programme, at a ceremony where it also presents results from its 2025–26 examinations. CXC Registrar and chief executive officer Dr. Wayne Wesley describes CTEC as a “game-changer” and says it is designed to break existing subject content into focus modules that learners complete and earn as credentials.

CXC says a mathematics pilot for CTEC was conducted in the May–June 2026 examinations and was “highly successful.” Wesley says more than 2,500 candidates across 15 territories and 42 centres took the module 1 mathematics pilot, and 88% achieved acceptable grades. The programme’s approach is positioned as structured, modularised learning that allows credentials to be awarded even if learners’ education is interrupted.

Across coverage, CXC also outlines the broader results release for the region, highlighting attention on CSEC mathematics and English, including reported changes in pass rates. The two outlets largely align on the launch, the module-based model, and the stated pilot outcomes, with differences mainly in the amount of quoted detail and regional context included.
