A tiger that escapes from a private enclosure in eastern Germany is shot dead by police after it attacks and injures a man. Multiple outlets report the incident occurs in and around Schkeuditz, near Leipzig airport, over the weekend. Local residents describe panic as the animal roams among allotments, prompting calls to police.
The tiger is reported to belong to a local animal trainer, Carmen Zander, who is nicknamed Germany’s “Tiger Queen,” and is associated with a private menagerie. According to reports, the tiger injures one of its keepers during the escape. After the attack, police respond with armed officers and, ultimately, shoot the tiger.
