Former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose says he views Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, as a “fantastic” figure, but he does not expect Obi to succeed in the 2027 elections.

Speaking on TVC’s Politics Tonight on Tuesday, Fayose attributes his prediction to what he describes as a fractured opposition. He argues that Obi’s move to the NDC and Atiku Abubakar’s continued involvement with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) divide opposition voters and weaken their electoral prospects. Fayose also suggests that Obi’s political approach from the 2023 period is now widely known, which he says reduces the chances of a surprise win.

Fayose contrasts this with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), saying unity among APC leaders helps secure electoral support. He cites Muhammadu Buhari’s voter base and Bola Tinubu’s influence as examples of how cohesion can translate into political power, concluding that opposition unity is a key factor if they want different results in 2027.
