Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) leader and senator Seriake Dickson says “no mercy” should be shown to what he describes as terrorists masquerading as politicians. He makes the remarks in a post on his verified X account late Tuesday, following meetings with a U.S. delegation.
Dickson says he met a joint team from the International Republican Institute (IRI) and the National Democratic Institute (NDI), two U.S.-based organizations that promote democracy. He argues that some election actors abandon political engagement for violence, alleging that they procure arms, train thugs, and collude with security personnel to intimidate and kill voters during election periods. He also says such perpetrators can be rewarded with government positions.
Across the outlets, the key elements are Dickson’s warning and call for consequences, including naming, shaming, and sanctioning the individuals he accuses. Both reports also frame his comments around protecting free and fair elections, urging institutions such as INEC and security agencies to prevent intimidation at the polls.
