Two women are arrested in Delhi for allegedly cheating a 67-year-old man of ₹1.30 lakh after befriending him through a dating app, police say. Authorities allege they stole his mobile phone during a meeting in Defence Colony and then used it to access his bank accounts, transferring money via UPI without his consent.
Police say one accused created a fictitious dating profile to establish contact with the complainant and later coordinated the scheme. Her associate allegedly met the man in person by impersonating the woman from the app. Investigators identify the accused as Jyotsna (26) and Manshi (21), both residents of Delhi. The complainant allegedly first met the women on July 20 and later on July 24, when his phone was taken.
Police report that after the theft, the ₹1.30 lakh was transferred from the man’s accounts to accounts linked to the accused, with part of the money withdrawn through an ATM. An e-FIR was registered on July 25 at the cyber police station, and the probe relied on banking transaction records, CCTV footage, and technical surveillance to trace the suspects.
