Residents of Ebenesi Community in Nnobi, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State protest against the planned demolition of ancestral homes to make way for a Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) power transmission line project. Protesters gather at a traditional centre and call on federal and state authorities to intervene.

Across reports, residents say officials of the Anambra State Physical Planning Board have marked houses for demolition and directed landlords to vacate within a short period, with demolition to be carried out at the landlords’ expense. They allege that more than six elders collapse and die after their homes were marked. Community leaders also argue that the project route is diverted through residential areas without a relocation plan, and they raise concerns about the impact on ancestral lands and daily living.

While protesters request protection for the homes or alternative arrangements—such as relocation or underground routing—an Anambra Physical Planning Board official says demolition notices were served and the area had long been earmarked for the project. The reports describe meetings and visits to traditional leadership and assurances that grievances will be communicated, with the dispute reflecting tensions between infrastructure delivery and community rights.
