The Modi government is planning a “One Day, One University” initiative as part of its outreach to young people, particularly Gen Z. Under the proposed plan, one Union minister is expected to visit a university each day and hold interactions with students.

During these visits, ministers are expected to discuss students’ views on issues affecting the country and to explain government schemes and programmes intended for students and young people. The stated goal is to strengthen engagement with young people through direct, in-person dialogue.

The move comes amid rising student unrest in parts of India, with some outlets linking the timing to intensified protests over the NEET paper leak issue. While the outlets broadly agree on the initiative’s framework and purpose, they place different emphasis on the broader political context and the urgency implied by the ongoing campus demonstrations.
