Security operatives including the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services (DSS) reportedly foil a planned mass abduction in Katsina State, killing at least 24 suspected bandits. The operation takes place on Tuesday at Gidan Bawa village in Kandarawa Ward, Bakori Local Government Area.

According to security expert Zagazola Makama, around 40 gunmen loyal to bandit kingpin Isiya Kwashen Garwa invade the community intending to abduct residents, particularly women and children. Makama says the attack is planned to resemble a recent mass kidnapping in Woro community, Kwara State. Intelligence about the plot is described as enabling security forces to mobilise quickly, including DSS personnel and members of the Katsina Community Watch Corps and the Civilian Joint Task Force.

The outlets agree that operatives intercept and ambush the gunmen, rescue abducted villagers, and recover stolen cattle—reported as 19 in the Katsina reports. They also report that efforts continue to track and apprehend fleeing attackers, with the exact number of rescued abductees not consistently detailed across the accounts.
