A Chinese national, identified as Yupeng Sun, is charged in the United States with allegedly committing voter fraud during the 2024 presidential election. Prosecutors say he allegedly voted under the name of another Chinese national by impersonating that person, and then later reported the other individual to authorities.

According to the Justice Department, Sun, 33, faces one count related to fraudulent voter registration and one count related to fraudulent voting. The case includes an additional allegation that, after submitting the vote using another person’s identity, he provided anonymous tips about the impersonated individual to immigration authorities.

One outlet describes the matter primarily as an election-related voter fraud charge, while also highlighting the unusual sequence of events involving immigration reporting. Another outlet similarly reports the alleged impersonation and the subsequent tips to authorities, focusing on Sun’s background as a Massachusetts resident and the nature of the identity used in the registration and ballot. Both accounts attribute the allegations to the DOJ and present the case as ongoing legal proceedings.
