Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa presides over a graduation ceremony at Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT) where 3,495 graduands receive degrees and diplomas. The event takes place on Wednesday as CUT marks its 25th anniversary.
The ceremony also includes academic leadership changes at the university. Outlets report the installation of Professor Irvin Mpofu as CUT’s third Vice Chancellor, succeeding Professor David Jambgwa Simbi, who retired earlier this year. In addition, New Zimbabwe reports that Zimbabwe’s Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe and the head of the prisons service, Chihobvu, receive PhDs during the proceedings.
While the two accounts focus on the same ceremony and participation by senior officials, they differ slightly in emphasis, with one outlet highlighting the PhD awards more directly alongside Mnangagwa’s role and the graduands’ numbers. Both describe the graduation as a key milestone for the institution’s 25-year history.
