A new bird-watching observation tower designed by Xiang Architects opens at China’s Chenhu Wetland bird sanctuary near Wuhan. The structure, called the Chenhu Migratory Bird Observation Tower, rises from the marshland and is designed to provide elevated views while shaping how visitors experience the ascent.

Architecture outlets describe the tower as a steel, multi-stair structure organized around a double-helix form. Dezeen says the viewpoint stands about 19.8 metres above the surrounding marshland. ArchDaily adds that the tower sits on Xianglushan, a natural promontory roughly 22 metres above sea level.

Both sources link the project to the wetland’s ecological role, noting that the sanctuary hosts more than 100,000 migratory birds each winter. Where the coverage differs is emphasis: ArchDaily focuses on the design concept of turning climbing into part of the landscape experience rather than a purely efficient route, while Dezeen highlights the tower’s form and its intended viewpoint function within the sanctuary.
