Former Imo State Governor and senator Rochas Okorocha files a lawsuit against INEC, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Governor Hope Uzodinma over the publication of Uzodinma’s name as the APC candidate for the 2027 Imo West senatorial election.
Okorocha, through counsel, files the case on August 13, 2026, at the Federal High Court in Abuja, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1854/2026. He challenges INEC’s listing of Uzodinma, arguing that he is the candidate from what he describes as the APC primary held on May 18. Okorocha also claims Uzodinma remains ineligible to contest for the Senate while serving as governor, citing constitutional provisions on eligibility and the overlap between Uzodinma’s tenure and the 2027 senatorial inauguration period.
The suit seeks multiple remedies, including declarations that the publication is unconstitutional, recognition of Okorocha as the duly elected APC candidate, and court orders restraining Uzodinma from presenting himself as the party’s nominee. Vanguard and Nigerian Eye both report the parties involved, the court filing, and the dispute over the APC candidate’s name.
